The first thing to remember is that "men" don't like anything uniformly. There are over 3 billion men on earth, and not all of them are straight. So, the options for this question are:
a) why do butts, on average, seem to be a feature of the female body that is considered attractive more than other body parts; or
b) why do a particular population of straight men, in a particular time and place, seem to focus a great deal of attention on women's butts.
The evolutionary biologists have all sorts of theories that claim to answer question a). They'll tell you that this statistical average relates to something like signs of fertility, or links to our near evolutionary relatives. However, this type of science is pretty suspect. In reality, no one has done a giant multi-country study asking everyone around the world to rate the most attractive body parts, and then followed up that study with further attempts to eliminate external variables. Evolutionary biologists, many of whom are themselves straight men from a specific place and time, simply assume that everyone likes butts. So, let's go with Occam's razor and simply conclude that evolutionary biologists like butts and have projected this perspective out on all the rest of us.
On to question b), then, which is the more interesting one anyway. It is very clear that in some places and times, the straight men talk A LOT about butts.
The first thing to think about is that straight men are not always honest about what they're attracted to. If everyone around you likes big butts, then all the other brothers would be simply fitting in by not denying. They may not particularly care for an kitty
-bitty waist and a round thing in your face. They may not, in fact, get sprung. But better to say that they do get sprung, in order to fit in with their male friends.
It actually gets even more interesting than this, though. Because attraction isn't fixed. It changes over time. It might be the case that talking about women's' butts is actually something that makes a person more likely to pay attention to women's' butts. Now that I need something to say about that ass, I may spend a bit more time checking out that ass. Initially, I just wanted to turn to my buddy and say "check out that ass," but now I'm really checking that ass out. And it occurs to me that I really like ass.
There's even a reverse version of this. If everyone around me is fixated on big butts, I might start secretly developing a fetish for tiny little butts. I'll be ashamed of it, but the shame only makes me fixate on it more, and it becomes a source of incredible sexual fixation for me.
These are only a handful of the various reasons that the men in your life might be interested in women's asses. Questions like this can't ever be answered in a simple and straightforward way. Maybe, if there's a particular man who seems particularly interested, you could ask him.
